The UFC is set to return to New York’s Madison Square Garden this weekend for the much-hyped Adesanya vs. Perera, UFC 281 pay-per-view (PPV) event. The Middle East hosted the PPV on Saturday night after a successful UFC 280 PPV.
While Islam Makhachev became the new undisputed UFC lightweight champion last month, Israel Adesanya moved into UFC 281 looking to maintain and better his undefeated middleweight record.
Meanwhile, UFC 281 Live Online will be headlined by Adesanya vs. Pereira in the main event for the UFC middleweight title. The MMA world has been waiting for this match since Alex Pereira made his UFC debut at MSG last year.
While Israel Adesanya is coming off successful championship defenses against Whittaker and Jared Cannonier, Periera defeated Andreas Michaelidis, Bruno Silva, and Sean Strickland to capture the title.
It is pertinent to note that Adesanya is 23-1-0 in his career, with his only loss coming in a bout where he fought for the UFC light heavyweight title. However, Adesanya was defeated twice by Perera during their kickboxing days. Adesanya fought Pereira once, once by knockout and once by decision.
