Oleksandr Usyk made his professional debut in 2013 after winning the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics. The Ukrainian won the WBO cruiserweight title in 2016. At the 2017–18 World Boxing Super Series tournament, he defeated Marco Huck and Myris Bridis for the WBC cruiserweight title, and Murat Gassiev in the finals for the WBA, IBF, and The Ring cruiserweight titles. . His only defense as undisputed champion was a knockout win over Tony Bellew in 2018.
Usyk became a heavyweight in 2019. After defeating Chazz Witherspoon and Derek Chisora, he defeated Joshua by unanimous decision last September to become the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight champions.
Joshua made his professional debut in 2013 defeating Emanuele Leo via TKO. In 2015, Joshua won the Commonwealth and British heavyweight titles against Dillian Whyte and Gary Cornish. In 2019, Andy Ruiz Jr. beat Joshua for all the gold in the biggest upset in boxing history. It was Anthony Joshua’s first fight in the United States and he was knocked down four times en route to a 17th-round stoppage. Joshua defeated Andy Ruiz in a rematch a few months later in Saudi Arabia. Joshua held the title against Kubrat Pulev in December 2020 before his latest reverse.
